People Accused Of Sexual Harassment Should Remain Anonymous

Today, the shocking news came out that Carl Sargeant, a Welsh Labour MP who was accused of sexual harassment and suspended from the party, has taken his own life.

The sex pest furore has now turned tragic. Before a proper investigation had been carried out, the claims against Sergeant were made public and he was fired from his position as cabinet secretary for communities and children.

There is just no nuance anymore when it comes to this subject. Not everybody who makes an accusation of sexual harassment is lying and not everybody who is accused is guilty either. This is why allegations must be taken seriously, but the accused must be presumed innocent and, I now think, there must be anonymity and privacy for both parties as well.
