Ellen Degeneres Is Not Racist. Those Who Say She Is Are Just Nasty Bullies

I have ceased to be shocked at The Outrage Machine.

Now, when it grinds into gear to crush another unwitting victim, I no longer regard it with the same horror and disbelief I used to; I’ve gotten to know it too well

It’s the same pathetic pattern repeated over and over where some innocent person is subjected to a barrage of  false accusations of racism and/or sexism by very sad people who scan social media looking for something, anything to be offended by.

Ellen Degeneres is the latest celebrity to have fallen afoul of the Twitter rage mob, after she tweeted a photoshopped picture of herself atop the back of the 100m whiz Usain Bolt with the caption, “This is how I’m running errands from now on.” A perfectly innocent gesture swiftly pounced upon as racism by the perpetually aggrieved.

It is pretty obvious to anyone who hasn’t undergone a total humourectomy that she was joking and meant absolutely no harm or disrespect towards Usain Bolt who even shared the image with his Twitter followers.

It’s Ellen Degeneres for goodness sake! A gentle soul whose sharp wit never cuts too deep. She is one of the sweetest television personalities out there. I cannot think of a more absurd target. Except for maybe Jessica Fletcher from Murder She Wrote.

Because that’s all these people are, they are bullies, who try and obscure their malice behind a mask of virtue.

Alas, however, her impeccable track record did not spare her and she was forced to state the blindingly obvious fact that she is not a bigot.

“I am highly aware of the racism that exists in our country,” she wrote on Twitter. “It is the furthest thing from who I am.”

It was up to her how she chose to deal with the situation, but I wish she hadn’t dignified such shameless bullying with a response.

Because that’s all these people are, they are bullies, who try and obscure their malice behind a mask of virtue. They projected all their anger and bitterness onto Ellen Degeneres and tried to make her feel like it was her fault. That she deserved it – the modus operandi of the classic bully.

It’s not even genuinely political with bullies of this kind. Let’s not ennoble the behaviour of these imbeciles. It’s not about racism. It’s not about sexism. They just enjoy watching someone suffer. It’s as plain and simple as that.
